Traveling with Kids? Start Here!

Get simple, realistic family travel tips + my go-to packing strategies (packing checklist coming soon!)

Hi, we’re Summer and Marcelo—home cooks, parents of two, and the creators behind this space where food and family travel come together.

We met at Austin College in Sherman, Texas (Go Roos!) back in 2010 and have been cooking up a storm ever since. With multicultural backgrounds—Marcelo is half Argentinian and half Mexican, and Summer is half French and half Palestinian—food has always been at the center of our lives. We both grew up in families where meals meant connection, culture, and community, so it’s no surprise that our very first date (gelato and a three-hour conversation about food and travel) set the tone for everything that followed.

We got married in Dallas in March 2017 and started this blog as a way to document and share the recipes we were creating in our kitchen. Over the years, we’ve developed and tested dozens of recipes that we still cook regularly today. Through that process, we’ve built experience in recipe development, food photography, and creating reliable, approachable meals for everyday life.

As our family has grown—with our daughter born in 2020 and our son in 2024—our time in the kitchen has shifted, but our values haven’t. While we may not be developing new recipes as frequently, we continue to rely on and share the tried-and-true meals that work for real families. Many of the recipes you’ll find here are:

  • Family-tested and made repeatedly in our own kitchen
  • Rooted in our multicultural backgrounds
  • Designed to be approachable and realistic for busy households

In this next chapter, we’re expanding beyond the kitchen.

The Migonis Traveling Together

Travel has always been a meaningful part of our lives, and becoming parents only strengthened our desire to explore the world with our children. We believe that kids can learn so much through travel—about food, culture, flexibility, and connection—and we’re passionate about making that feel accessible to other families.

Here on the blog, you’ll now find a mix of:

  • Family-friendly travel guides and itineraries
  • Practical tips for traveling with young children
  • Cultural experiences through food, both at home and abroad
  • Our original recipes that continue to be part of our everyday life

Our goal is simple: to help families feel more confident cooking at home and traveling the world with their kids—without needing everything to be perfect.

We’re so glad you’re here and hope this space inspires your next meal or your next adventure.

xoxo

We made this mistake on our first flight with our toddler…
We spent 7 days with our 4 year old (and I was 15 weeks pregnant), and this trip ended up being the perfect mix of adventure and slow beach 🏝️ days
Looking back, the best thing we did on this trip was SLOW down.
We spent 10 days in Italy 🇮🇹 with our 5 year old and 7 month old - and it ended up being one of our favorite trips as a family
✨A little March recap✨
The best travel tip for traveling with kids isn’t a hack … it’s a playground🛝
