I think we can all agree potatoes are the ultimate side dish, right? We will take potatoes in pretty much any form, but we have to say, fries are one of our favorites. We especially like sweet potato fries to pair with our favorite weeknight meals. For years we struggled to get the perfect crispy baked fries, but these turn out perfect every time and only have four ingredients!
There are a few keys to getting these sweet potato fries right. Firstly, you want to be sure to cut them on the skinnier side. This allows them to cook a bit quicker. It is so important to have a good chef’s knife for this, as cutting through a dense sweet potato is very hard, and dangerous, with a dull knife. We love using our Wusthof Chef’s Knife for this job.
Next, we recommend using a silicone baking sheet or parchment paper to cook the sweet potato on. This makes sure the fries cook evenly and don’t stick to the pan. We love using the silicone baking mats for roasting vegetables. It’s also less wasteful than using parchment paper. The other key to prevent sticking is using a good amount of oil. We used about 3 tablespoons for 1 (extra) large sweet potato and felt it was the perfect amount.
Finally, make sure the oven is pre-heated to 400F. You want the oven to be on the hotter side when roasting vegetables to really get that crispy texture, plus it helps to speed up the cooking process. We find that by cutting the sweet potato fries thinly and cooking at 400F, they cook in about 20-25 minutes.
Serve alongside your favorite burger recipe with a side of ketchup for dipping! They’re also great to dip into a bit of chimichurri if you’ve got a jar you need to use up!
Sweet Potato Fries
Ingredients
- 1.5 Pounds Sweet Potato Peeled and cut into thin strips
- 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
- 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F
- Toss your sweet potato fries in the olive oil, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
- Lay out onto a large baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper and distribute evenly. You may want to use two baking sheets if they don’t all fit on one. Avoid overcrowding, as this prevents the sweet potatoes from getting browned and crispy.
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until starting to brown on the edges.
