The holiday shopping season is officially underway! We are slowly getting through our shopping list and thought we’d put together a gift guide! This guide is obviously geared towards foodies and home cooks, but we included a few of our favorite non-kitchen items as well. Links are included for all of the gifts and discount codes when we could get them for you!
- Virginia Boys Walnut Wood Cutting Boards: These boards are handmade in the USA with sustainably sourced black walnut wood. They come unseasoned, so you can finish your board with your own selection of oils. We used this one, but you can use plain coconut oil as well. The boards take on a beautiful color after finishing them and are perfect for entertaining! We love the 8x 17 charcuterie paddle, ideal for cheese and meat boards! (PS – use code “themigonikitchen” for 15% discount)
- Lodge Cast Iron Skillets: Our Lodge skillet is probably the most versatile pan we own and one of the cheapest! Use it for cooking bacon and eggs, searing meats, browning veggies, and even for baking (perfect for cornbread!). Cleanup is super easy, we use a cast iron brush and hot water and dry with paper towel. They come in all shapes and sizes, but the 10.25 inch is the perfect size for us. It’s a great gift idea for someone just getting started in the kitchen, or those limited on space (i.e. the college kid on your list). They also make super cute small ones, perfect to cook an egg on, or make one cookie, that make adorable stocking stuffers.
- Le Creuset 5.5 quart Dutch Oven: Another workhorse in our kitchen, we loooove our Le Creuset Dutch Oven! It was probably our single most exciting item we received on our registry. If you care for these enameled cast iron ovens, they should last you a lifetime. They are known for their ability to maintain even and consistent heat and are idea for roasting and braising. They can easily go from stovetop to oven, perfect for searing and braising short ribs or roasts. Plus they come in so many gorgeous colors! We love the Cerise dutch oven.
- Felt and Fat Mugs and Plateware: We discovered this gorgeous range of plateware at one our favorite home and kitchen shops in Dallas, Set and Co., located in the Bishop Arts area. We absolutely love the matte look and the gorgeous colors of this brand! If you’ve ever seen some of our more colorful plates in our Instagram feed, they are probably Felt and Fat. We are loving their mugs right now. The perfect gift for the coffee or tea drinker on your list or anyone that appreciates beautiful ceramics. They were awesome enough to share a 20% code for our followers good through December 9th. Use code “migoni20” at checkout.
- Bodum Copper French Press: We are both coffee addicts and while we LOVE our Nespresso machine (another great gift idea btw), we love a good French Press. We try to buy some local coffee beans anytime we go on a trip. We actually brought some great coffee back from Brooklyn and from New Orleans this year. We grind it fresh and enjoy an amazing cup of coffee. All French Presses work the same way, but we especially love this copper one, because when we’re not using it, it looks pretty on our kitchen shelves!
- Sansaire Sous Vide: You may have seen some of our stories or recipes using the sous vide method of cooking. It’s a game changer for cooking steaks, but we often use it for pork, duck, and even vegetables. Sous vide literally means “under pressure” in French. It’s a technique used in many high end restaurants, and the Sansaire gives you the ability to bring that technique into your own kitchen. The technique allows you to cook meat all to one temperature. Imagine if your entire steak was perfectly medium rare, pink throughout, instead of just pink in the center and medium-well on the outside. It also makes the meat extremely tender. We’ve bought cheaper cuts of beef and cooked them sous vide and so impressed with the results. This is an awesome gift for the hardcore home cook or foodie on your list.
- Shun Classic 8 inch Chef’s Knife: If we could only have one item from our kitchen to cook with, I think we would have to pick our Shun Chef’s Knife! It’s an investment, but the quality of this knife can’t be beat. It’s by far the sharpest knife we tried out and we’ve been happy with it 2 years later. We hardly have to sharpen it! Plus, if you buy at Sur La Table or William Sonoma, they offer free knife sharpening in stores, if you ever do need it. PS – they are on sale today at William Sonoma, the 8 inch knife is marked down to $149!
- Reidel Stemless Wine Glasses: For the wine lover on your list – Reidel is a German company, producing glassware since 1756! We love their entire range, but some of the higher end glasses can be extremely pricey and fragile. We like these stemless glasses because they are made for more casual use, are easier to clean, and reasonable priced. Plus they work well for both red and white wines.
- “Dining In” by Alison Roman: We debated between several cookbooks for this list and settled on this one. I think Alison Roman’s book is easily approachable, the recipes aren’t overly complicated or hard to follow and turn out amazing. The salted butter chocolate chunk shortbread cookies are legendary. It’s a great gift for anybody that likes to cook.
- Balsamic Vinegar by Giuseppe Giusti: You might think spending $45 on a bottle of balsamic vinegar to be crazy, but let me tell you, this is nothing like the balsamic you buy for $2 at your local grocery store. We were brought back a bottle of this from some of our family that visited Modena earlier this year, and we’ve been rationing it out until we can make a trip ourselves to buy more! We’ve already booked a tour at Giuseppe Giusti for our upcoming Italy trip next month and are beyond excited. There is an art to making balsamic vinegar and not all bottles are created equal. It is much sweeter than the traditional bottles and is perfect for finishing off pastas or just for drizzling on a good chunk of Parmigiano Reggiano.
- 10th Whiskey Cordial: We are both big whiskey and bourbon drinkers, so when we were in Vail and stumbled upon 10th Mountain Whiskey and Spirit Company, we knew we had to go in and sample their products. They make all their spirits from locally sourced ingredients and everything we sampled was excellent! The cordial, however, was so unique and different from anything we’ve ever had before. Hints of vanilla, peach, and sage, it’s perfect to sip on after a meal. Ideal for the cocktail lover on your list! Free shipping if you buy 3 bottles or more!
- Kate Weiser Chocolates: We’ve been eating Kate Weiser’s chocolates for years! We discovered her talents on one of our very first dates at Chocolate Secrets here in Dallas, where she started before opening up her own store. We’ve tried chocolates from all over the world, and I have to say, I still think Kate Weiser’s are by far the most creative, delicious, and freaking gorgeous chocolates I’ve ever had. They are my go-to hostess gifts and she has got so many cool stocking stuffer ideas, you can’t go wrong. “Carl the Snowman” was just featured on Oprah’s favorite things, for good reason. We even took a chocolate making class with her (another great gift idea when they are offering them!) and truly saw her passion for the craft shine. If you are in the DFW area, you can purchase at locations in Trinity Groves, North Park, and now in Fort Worth too! They also ship nationwide now!
- Geranium Leaf Body Balm Aesop Body Lotion: I sampled this body lotion outside of an Aesop store earlier this year and have been obsessed ever since. It’s a mild but very fresh scent and has tons of natural oils to really help moisturize the skin, without feeling to greasy. A little goes a long way, so it’s well worth the price, and makes a wonderful gift for anyone this holiday season.
- Sexy Peel Soap Bar from Lush: We both are huge fans of the Lush brand. We love that they use natural ingredients and focus on minimal packaging, plus everything they make smells AMAZING! Of all of their products, we love the Sexy Peel soap most. It’s a burst of citrus that is perfect to wake up to in the shower, and is neutral enough that we both are able to use it. It’s one of their more popular bar soaps for a reason! Perfect stocking stuffer.
- Teakwood and Tobacco Candle by PF Candle Co: We are big candle people, but it can be SO hard to find a candle that actually fills your home with its scent. AND also hard to find scents that everyone finds appealing. This is the perfect candle for anyone on your list. It’s a classic scent, not too overbearing, but definitely noticeable when you walk into a room. It comes in a neutral jar that looks great anywhere and is perfect for both men and women. You can find this brand at Whole Foods stores, but they also sell them at one of our favorite Dallas gift shops, Read Between the Lines, and they are offering 15% off your first order right now with the code “welcome15”. A little shout out to the shop, we try to shop local as much as possible, and if we ever have a person on our gift list that we are stumped with, the people at Read Between the Lines always help us put together the perfect gift. They also do gorgeous gift wrapping and have their own line of stationary. Check them out if you live in the Dallas area, they are located in Victory Park. If you’re not from Dallas, you can also purchase on Amazon here.
That’s our list! It was tough to only include 15 items, but hopefully you can find something unique on here for one of your family members or friends. Happy Holidays!
