Gran Melia Iguazu with Kids Review

The Ultimate Iguazú Splurge

When you only have a couple of days to experience Iguazú Falls, proximity is everything. Traveling with young children— specifically, an 18-month-old toddler and a 6-year-old for us—means long commute times, waiting in park gate queues, and sitting in taxis can quickly turn a dream vacation into a stressful ordeal.

That is why we looked into the Gran Melia Iguazu. It is the only hotel located directly inside Iguazú National Park on the Argentine side.

While it is undeniably a luxury splurge property, it was genuinely our favorite hotel experience to date. If you are debating whether to spend the money, here is our honest review of why staying on-site, and specifically booking 1 to 2 nights, is the absolute sweet spot to enjoy top-tier luxury without spending a fortune.

Accommodation: The RedLevel Junior Suite Experience

When booking a luxury property with two young kids, room layout and VIP perks matter just as much as the view. We booked a RedLevel Junior Suite, which gave us access to premium room features and the resort’s elite services.

  • Room Setup & Family Comforts: Our suite featured a king-size bed, and the hotel kindly placed a rollaway bed for our 6-year-old at no additional cost, which we did request in advance. We brought our own travel crib for our 18-month-old, and the room had plenty of floor space to accommodate everything comfortably without feeling cramped.

  • The In-Room Amenities: After coming back from wet, rainy hikes, returning to high-end comforts was incredible. The deep soaking tub, rainfall shower, and special kid-friendly toiletries made winding down an absolute treat. They were also so kind to have a bottle of bubbly and some sweet treats upon arrival in our room.

  • The Private Balcony View: One of the most specific and unforgettable features of the RedLevel rooms is the massive private balcony directly facing the misty spray of the falls. Waking up and falling asleep to the direct view and roar of Iguazú Falls was truly priceless.

The RedLevel Lounge: A Family Value Hack

While the extra service—like personalized assistance and private check-in/out—was wonderful, the biggest win for our family was access to the RedLevel Lounge. I know that talking about a “value hack” when staying at a resort that costs occasionally more than $1000/night seems silly, but it was appreciated that we had some options for eating that didn’t require our family to spend hundreds at expensive resort restaurants.

Because the hotel is inside the national park, you are tucked away from the main town of Puerto Iguazú. We did not choose to have a rental car, and there are no off-property dining options within walking distance. Eating every single meal at high-end resort restaurants can quickly add up, both in cost and in the patience required from hungry kids during long sit-down meals.

The RedLevel Lounge completely solved this:

  • All-Day Refreshments: Continuous access to light bites, snacks, and drinks kept our toddler and 6-year-old fed between structured meals. Examples of foods included a wide array of cheeses, cured meats, nuts, and fruit, ample drink options (they made our daughter a virgin mojito which she loved), and small appetizers. They open daily from noon to 8 PM.

  • Evening Cocktails & Snacks: In the evening, the lounge offers an open cocktail bar with a spread of delicious appetizers and mini desserts.

  • The Cost-Saving Strategy: Utilizing the lounge for light meals allowed us to skip multiple expensive, full-service sit-down dinners at the hotel restaurants—a massive lifesaver for our budget and our kids’ early bedtime schedules.

Gran Melia Iguazu Resort Amenities & Standout Highlights

1. The Rim-Flow Infinity Pool & Spa

The resort features a stunning rim-flow infinity pool that sits right on the edge of the jungle canopy overlooking the falls. While the family relaxed by the pool, we were treated to incredible views of wild toucans flying across the trees. I also took time to book a treatment at the on-site spa, which was the perfect way to unwind after exploring the park.

The spa was gorgeous and even featured an indoor sauna/whirlpool area that looked incredibly inviting, but I didn’t get a chance to use that. My massage treatment was extremely well done and I highly appreciated the pot of tea and snack that was served after the treatment in their relaxation area.

2. The Gran Meliá Kids Club & Activities

A major bonus for luxury travel with children is the Gran Meliá Kids Club. While our 18-month-old took an afternoon nap in the suite, our 6-year-old spent a couple of hours at the supervised club enjoying painting, crafts, and games. It gave her a fun break and gave us a quiet afternoon moment to relax.

In addition to the kids club, they have all kinds of activities scheduled each day/evening. Live music, tango shows, cooking classes, yoga, art workshops, and more! So, you really can never got bored here!

3. On-Site Dining Options

When booking, you do have the option to select breakfast included or full board (all meals included). Since we had access to the lounge, we took most lunches as a light snack there, so we didn’t feel that the full board was worth it for us. Depending on your dining preferences it may be worthwhile to consider this option, as the prices at the restaurants are fairly steep.

When we did sit down for dining on the property, the food was excellent and surprisingly accommodating for the kids:

  • Merkado (Main Restaurant): Features a very accessible kids’ menu with familiar options (our daughter ordered the empanadas and loved them). This is also where the breakfast buffet is served.

  • Asador (On-Site Steakhouse): We ended one of our days with a traditional Argentine parrillada (mixed grill), which was delicious. The restaurant is right next door to Merkado so if your child wants something of the kids menu, it did not seem like a difficult thing to order from that while eating here.

  • Rooftop Cocktail Bar: Grab a drink here before dinner—it boasts panoramic views of the falls canopy that rival the main lobby!

4. Native Wildlife & The Monkey Warning!

The resort grounds are thriving with local wildlife. On our morning strolls through the resort gardens, we spotted groups of native Capuchin monkeys playing in the canopy right above us. You can also frequently seen toucans and vultures flying around in the jungle canopy.

Crucial Balcony Warning: The hotel staff explicitly warned us to keep our sliding balcony doors fully latched and locked at night and whenever we left the room. The local Capuchin monkeys are extremely clever and have been known to slide open unlocked balcony doors to raid the in-room mini-bars!

Practical Logistics & Park Access

Beyond the luxury amenities, you are paying for unmatched convenience:

  • Direct Trail Access: You can walk directly from the hotel grounds onto the Upper Circuit trail system. By stepping onto the trails early in the morning right after the breakfast buffet, we had massive stretches of the boardwalks almost entirely to ourselves before day-tripper crowds arrived.

  • No-Car Transport: We pre-arranged a smooth private transfer to and from Puerto Iguazú Airport (IGR), which is only about a 20-25 minute drive. Because everything you need for sightseeing and dining is right on property, not having a rental car was completely hassle-free.

Final Verdict: Is it Worth the Price Tag?

Yes, absolutely. While it is a high-end luxury investment, booking 1 to 2 nights at the Gran Melia Iguazu is worth every single penny—especially for families.

By upgrading to a RedLevel Junior Suite, the added value of the rollaway setup, direct falls views, and all-day lounge access (which significantly cut down our food expenses) made our short trip seamless, stress-free, and completely unforgettable.
