One of my favorite breakfasts on hot summer mornings is a refreshing collagen packed smoothie! This spinach and blueberry collagen smoothie is my ultimate favorite way to start the day. I recently started using collagen in my smoothies, since it seems to be all the hype as of late. My skin feels healthier, but I also appreciate it as a low calorie, unflavored, clean form of protein! I especially love the Girl and the Sea marine collagen since it’s a more sustainable source of collagen and there are no additives. Use our code “themigonikitchen” for 15% off!
I try my best to make sure my smoothies don’t pack in too much sugar from fruits. Spinach is my favorite way to add some greens to my smoothie because its taste is mild and doesn’t overpower the smoothie. Berries are great to add because they are high in fiber and lower in sugar content compared to other fruits. I buy fresh organic berries when they are on sale and freeze them myself to save money. Organic frozen fruits can be weirdly expensive, so this helps to cut down on cost! I like a mix of berries but you can do all blueberries if you prefer. You can also use fresh fruit, but know that your smoothie may be more watery and require some ice.
I’ve started adding a spoonful of nut butter to provide some healthy fats and keep me full longer. I alternate between peanut butter and almond butter, depending on what I have on hand that week. Finally, I use almond milk for my base. I love this local brand Mooala because it has clean and simple ingredients and no added sugars. Of course, you can sub your favorite nut milk or other plant based milk.
Having a good blender is key to making tasty smoothies and I can’t recommend our Vitamix enough. We got ours refurbished via Sur La Table for $250 a while back and it may have been one of the best purchases we’ve ever made! Definitely a kitchen appliance worth the splurge.
Hope this collagen smoothie helps jumpstart your day! And don’t forget to use our code “themigonikitchen” to get 15% on Girl and the Sea Collagen!
