Where to Stay with Kids in Vail Village

  • The Vibe: Pedestrian-only, European alpine architecture, and the energetic heart of Vail.

  • Why Families Love It: Car-free cobblestone streets mean kids can walk safely without traffic worries. You’re steps away from pirate-themed playgrounds, ice skating, restaurants, and Gondola One.

  • Best For: Families prioritizing walkability and immediate access to dining and mountain activities.

  • Top-Rated Hotel Options in Vail Village:

      • The Sebastian – Vail: Boutique luxury located right in the heart of the village with a heated pool, hot tubs, and great family suites.

    • Mid-Range / Boutique:

      • Austria Haus by Hyatt: Charming, smaller boutique hotel with European flair, right next to Gore Creek and covered bridges.

Spotlight: Why We Always Stay at The Sonnenalp Hotel

Every time we visit Vail, we somehow end up staying at The Sonnenalp Hotel—and for good reason. It is hands-down one of our absolute favorite hotel properties anywhere in the world for both couples and families. The moment you walk in, the Swiss-Alpine decor transports you straight to Europe with the coziest mountain vibes.

1. True Separation of Space for Sleep

Standard hotel rooms with toddlers can be tricky when bedtime hits. When our daughter was 10 months old, we were upgraded to a split-level suite. Having a separate, quiet bedroom upstairs for her crib while we enjoyed a roaring fireplace in the living room made evening downtime after her bedtime so peaceful!

2. Built for Cozy Downtime & Weather-Proof Days

Beyond the outstanding daily breakfast buffet and world-class spa (mom must treat herself to a massage!), the property shines on quiet afternoons. They keep board games out in the lobby, and the basement features a game room with ping-pong. Combine that with their heated indoor/outdoor pool, and you have the ultimate weather-proof setup for kids.

3. Caring and Considerate Staff

The concierge team is consistently outstanding. They go out of their way to provide local advice on child-friendly hikes—even providing us with basic hiking gear on one trip. They are always happy to suggest local eateries and assist with reservations to ensure your stay is memorable.

Parent Tip: We loved our stay so much we bought a tiny Sonnenalp kids’ spa robe to take home as a keepsake!
