Mezcal is such a versatile liquor! It has an incredible smoky flavor which adds some intensity to otherwise normal drinks. Both tequila and mezcal are made from the agave plant, however, the production process is slightly different for Mezcal. The agave plant is usually cooked in an underground pit over a fire. This is what results in its distinct smoky flavor. On our last trip to Mexico, we picked up this bottle of Mezcal at duty free after we tried a sample. We’re always looking for new, fun drinks to make with it.

Since today is Cinco de Mayo, we thought it would be perfect to work on a recipe for some smoky Mezcal margaritas! The perfect addition to some guacamole and shrimp tacos (see our post from yesterday)! We made ours frozen, because we love making frozen drinks in our Vitamix, but these work great on ice too.

This is a great base recipe to use for a flavored margarita as well. Add some mango puree or some grenadine for a fruitier drink or add a jalapeno for a spicier version! Happy Cinco De Mayo everyone, hope you enjoy!

Add all ingredients, except the garnish, into a blender. Blend until smooth. Add more agave or lime to taste. Pour into glasses. Use a lime to wet the rim of the glasses. Pour some salt into a plate, salt the rim of the glasses. Garnish with a lime wedge. Enjoy!

✈️ Travel is a priority for us...but we know it’s not cheap.
We made this mistake on our first flight with our toddler…
We spent 7 days with our 4 year old (and I was 15 weeks pregnant), and this trip ended up being the perfect mix of adventure and slow beach 🏝️ days
Looking back, the best thing we did on this trip was SLOW down.
We spent 10 days in Italy 🇮🇹 with our 5 year old and 7 month old - and it ended up being one of our favorite trips as a family
